a month agoMy main beef with this place is to put what looks like a bowl of complimentary nuts on the table and then change RM18 for it when we would have said no to the offer.! Elegant Inn is located at Menara Hap Seng, just off Jalan P. Ramlee. Parking is available at ground level as well as in Building 2, at approximately RM4 per hour. The restaurant itself is situated in the adjacent building, connected via a connecting bridge. After crossing, a short escalator ride leads you directly to the entrance, clearly marked with Michelin signage. On arrival to the restaurant, one is greeted by the maitre’d and features a spacious dining area with large windows offering pleasant exterior views. There is also outdoor seating available. Inside, several booth-style tables are positioned towards the left-hand side, providing a greater degree of privacy. We visited for dim sum which was felt to be rather limited selection especially if you did not want a lot of fried items . Unfortunately, no enquiry was made regarding food allergies at the time of ordering. One member of our party has an egg allergy, which resulted in the fried radish cake needing to be returned. Dishes Ordered: • Crispy Vegetable Roll: A nicely executed rice pastry with a crisp outer layer and vegetable filling. • Hokkaido Scallop: Disappointing overall, with a subtle chlorine-like aftertaste. • Soft Shell Crab with Spicy Sauce: Pleasantly crisp, but only three small pieces were served, offering poor value for the price(RM38). • Shrimp Dumplings (Har Gow): Average in flavour, again with a faint chlorine note. • Steamed Scallop, Organic Vegetables & Shrimp: An unusual combination with an odd flavour profile that did not work well. • Fried Radish Cake: Initially sent back due to the presence of egg. The replacement consisted of three slabs that were starchy and largely tasteless. • Sesame Nut Balls: Enjoyable; three pieces filled with sweet sesame paste. • Teas: Chrysanthemum tea and Pu-erh tea. Additional charges were applied for items such as towels (RM3.60 for 2) and titbits (nuts was high at RM 17.60 for 2!) on top of the standard 10% service charge. Service was adequate. However, communication was sometimes challenging as servers spoke very quickly in broken English, which made it difficult for guests to fully understand explanations at times.
