Theme parks are popular and fun-filled destinations where tourists, local and foreign alike flock to create and relive memories. Fortunately for us, Malaysia has many world class theme parks so we never need to travel far to enjoy an amazing day – be it with family or friends. These attractions are great sources of joy for everyone regardless of age.
Quite a number of theme parks have sprung up in Malaysia in recent years and many more are scheduled to open soon. Here are some of our favorites and those we anticipate the most.
Escape Adventureplay is perfect for outdoor adventure seekers and for those who seek an alternative to the beach in Penang. Opened since 2012, the eco-friendly park features a high ropes course, zip lines, slides, a climbing tower and various fun jungle activities suited for all ages. If you wish to foster a love for outdoors among the kids, this would be a great place to start. The tickets can be purchased in advance online for a cheaper price.
Sunway Lagoon Theme Park
Sunway Lagoon Theme Park is located in Bandar Sunway about 15km southwest of the Kuala Lumpur city centre. It offers a variety of water activity and rides to keep the whole family entertained, especially in a hot sunny day. The theme park is huge (80-acre) so spend at least a day to explore everything. Over the years a number of expansions have occurred to keep new and returning visitors thrilled, including Scream Park, Amusement Park, Extreme Park and Wildlife Park.
Legoland Malaysia is the first international theme park to open in Iskandar Puteri, Johor in 2012. It’s also the first Legoland theme park in Asia with over 40 interactive rides, shows and attractions. Other Lego-themed attractions have also opened nearby which include Legoland Water Park and Legoland hotel. Let your imagination run wild and build your very own houses, vehicles and buildings together with your family for a great bonding time.
20th Century Fox World
The 20th Century Fox World has without a doubt generated the most buzz among theme park fans and movie buffs mainly because it will be the first of its kind in the world. Scheduled to open at Genting Highlands by 2018, you can expect a total of 25 rides from box-office breaking movies like Ice Age, Alien vs Predator, Planet of the Apes, Night at the Museum and not to mention inarguably the most famous movie of all time – Titanic.
Movie Animation Park Studios (MAPS)
MAPS is the first animation theme park to open in Asia this year. There are 6 different theme zones which house 23 interactive attractions and 15 thrilling rides that are based on popular animated movies and TV shows such as BoBoiBoy, Casper, The Croods, Megamind and The Smurfs. You will also be pleased to know that MAPS is largely indoor, air-conditioned and shaded to keep the family busy, come rain or shine.
The list goes on and on but finding a theme park that suits your budget and preference is easier than it seems. Expedia’s interactive theme park map in Malaysia will help you find a theme park in Malaysia to visit and plan your holiday around it.
This cool yet informative tool includes an easy to use search function that lets you narrow down the list of theme parks to the state, admisson fee and activities offered. If you are planning to visit a theme park soon, head to the website and get started!
