Last weekend, a couple of colleagues from US came on a work trip and we decided to bring them to SOULed Out Ampang for dinner. It was the ideal place considering it was within walking distance from our office and their menu has something for everyone. If you work in a MNC company you would know the challenge of looking for THAT dining venue.
When I said SOULed Out’s has something for everyone, I really meant it whether it’s Western, Asian, Indian, vegetarian or even local hawker fare. Price wise I would say it’s pocket friendly enough, unless you are going for the hawker dishes.
Sang Har Mein @ RM33 was the first thing we ordered (for sharing) since this is one of the uniquely Malaysian dishes. We knew it was going to impress both visually and on the palette, and it sure did.
The prawn was succulent and came off the shell in a whole piece effortlessly, so you could tell it was fresh. Personally, I thought the gravy was a tad light in flavor but it was nothing a dash a soy sauce couldn’t fix.
The second dish we had was the Sizzling Lamb Cutlet @ RM36 which came highly recommended by the manager. The recommendation was spot on and not only our Indian colleagues loved it, we (the locals) also thought it was delicious and had to get one for ourselves. The masala sauce was rich and had a touch of heat to give it a little kick and we gladly mopped it up with the naan.
I had the Sirloin Steak with Garlic Sauce @ RM50 – medium and was cooked to a juicy finish, pure simple and enjoyable.
I have always wondered about the Sake San @ RM27 and I finally got the chance to try it. It’s basically a thin crust pizza topped with salmon slivers, salmon roe that rests on a bed of red leaf lettuce.
A lot goes on in every bite, you get the crunchiness from the pizza crust, fresh cripsness from the lettuce, silky smooth texture of salmon and juicy burst of flavor from the roe. If you prefer a more traditional choice, the tried and tested Aloha and Classic Pepperoni pizzas are also my favorites.
For dessert, we had the SO Jumbo Banana Split @ RM28 and like the name says, it’s really jumbo in size. Great value too since they serve it with Haagen Dazs ice cream.
Call me boring but whenever I come to SOULed Out I never fail to order the Vienna Iced Coffee with Haagen Dazs Chocolate Ice Cream @ RM17. The consistency is lighter than a milkshake but thick enough to beckon for slow sips to go along with the meal.
SOULed Out also offers a wide range of Mojitos which lets you choose from Lychee, Apple, Passionfruit and even Asam Boi – each with its distinct taste profile and presentation.
