If you are a prawn mee lover who don’t know about Johnny’s prawn mee in Shah Alam, then you are missing out on something truly special. His prawn mee has the richest and thickest soup you will possibly ever get, unless you cook it yourself. It’s simply a food experience that needs to be tried at least once.
First and foremost, do know that Johnny’s prawn mee is slightly more expensive than average. A standard bowl starts at RM8 but you are compensated with more toppings of 6-10 pieces of medium shelled prawns.
You can also opt for additional toppings such as pork ribs, pork intestines, chicken feet, prawns, fried shallots, pork belly, squid and egg. The cost for the extras are clearly displayed so order within your means. But Johnny still makes the effort to let you know the total beforehand to avoid any possible disputes.
For example, when I requested for extra pork ribs and prawns, he told me the price would be 8 + 5 + 4 = RM17. Since I don’t eat here often, I don’t mind paying for it especially when I have come this far from Kepong.
That said, my advice is not to go overboard and add too many different toppings because they will distract the core flavor. I actually tried adding almost everything which only caused the noodle to taste totally foreign.
Loh Mee is also available here and you can request for ‘cham loh’ (only Penangites understand this) if you want. To avoid any disappointment, it is recommended that you reach here before 1.30pm because his prawn mee tends to sell out earlier than everything else in the coffee shop.
