Bandar Bukit Puchong used to be my home for almost two years. I rented a place in Nilam Puri Condominiums when I was working in Cyberjaya. The reason I picked this area is because of the convenience it offers.
Bandar Bukit Puchong has everything you need like supermarkets, sports complex, shops but what I really cared about is the food. Food is actually abundant in this ever-growing township and you will find a good mix of restaurants, cafes, coffee shops and hawker options.
My recent visit to the township was a nostalgic one and it certainly brought back a lot of fond memories. I was also surprised to see the rapid transformation the town has experienced in such short period of time.
There are plenty of new developments and the most eye-catching one has to be the Epic Residence project. If you bought a unit here food will never be a problem considering the vast amount of options nearby. Parking is aplenty in the surrounding area and that is definitely a plus point.
With so many choices to choose from, you need to get your priorities right. So make sure you try these 5 places first, they are worth dropping by even for non-residents. Better still, they are all located near each other which makes your food hunt easy.

Warung Cikgu – Nasi Mmanggey
No.1 on the list is my personal top favorite: Warung Cikgu‘s Nasi Mmanggey. It’s cheap (RM5/packet), filling and delicious. What more can you ask? This Kelantan delicacy is prepared using a traditional family recipe to ensure the taste authenticity.
Their juicy ‘ayam goreng cincang’ is marinated for a full day to allow the flavor of the spices to penetrate the meat thoroughly for that extra flavor. The steamed rice is delightfully fluffy and a bit of their homemade spicilious sambal adds a lot of life.
Come early especially the weekends and you will be able to savor their nasi lemak and gulai tongkol as well. Also, don’t leave without trying their creamy coconut shake and fresh coconut juice, also known as ‘air kelapa baldi’.

Business hours: 7am – 10pm
Restoran Chef K 煮之家 – Local Specialties
Chef K is a family run business that serves excellent local delicacies, mostly noodles, rice dishes, kopi and teh – but with a touch of Ipoh.
In fact, the proprietor is the nephew of the famous ‘ma ta liu’ curry mee in Ipoh. That explains the similar flavor of spices you get in his curry broth.
For a more extravagant experience, additional toppings such as seafood, char siew and roast pork can be requested.
Pan Mee is also a specialty here and it’s considered as one of the best in Puchong by many.

Restoran Tuan Faridah Nasi Ayam Kampung
Restoran Tuan Faridah may look like a normal nasi campur restaurant but there’s more than meets the eye. Fried ‘ayam kampung’ (free range chicken) is what they are famous for and one bite is all you will need to know why.
The ayam kampung is tender and moist and it totally defies the common belief that free range chicken had to be tough and chewy. It tasted fresh, oil-free and salty but not overly so. Very appetizing when eaten with rice and their homemade sambal belacan dip.
Other recommended dishes to try here include lala and ketam masak lemak and other traditional ‘masakan kampung’ such as daging dendeng, ikan keli goreng berlada and curries.

Diem Cafe – Coffee & Bread
There are not many cafes that are willing to bake their own bread but that’s what exactly Diem Cafe has striven to do since opening.
All the toasts (6 toppings available) in their menu are baked in house fresh daily and you certainly can taste the difference. The crust is the kind you’d gladly munch on – it’s slightly crisp, nice and chewy.
The Eggee Mayo Toast @ RM6.90 is both affordable and filling enough for breakfast or as an afternoon snack. If you prefer something sweet, you won’t go wrong with their waffle which comes in three flavors: classic, Oreo and Bluberry. The price is more than reasonable considering you also get a scoop of ice cream with it. FYI that’s the Blueberry Waffle shown above.
For those looking for a proper meal, you would be pleased to know that Diem Cafe’s menu also features hot meals such as carbonara, chicken teriyaki don and nasi lemak. We did not expect the nasi lemak with curry chicken @ RM17.90 to be so delicious that it exceeded our expectations.
Diem Cafe’s coffees are competently priced and they are taste great too. Personally, I recommend getting their Vietnamese drip coffee, it’s strong and smooth just the way I like it. Other beverages offered included smoothies, tea, ice blended coffee and soda.

KP Tong Hong – Kuala Pilah Specialties
I am not too sure what KP stands for but I am willing to bet that it means Kuala Pilah. KP Tong Hong is one of the rarer restaurants in Klang Valley that specializes in Kuala Pilah food. Some of the signature dishes here include pork ribs pie, ‘hundred flower chicken’ and sambal seafood.
KP Tong Hong’s main branch is still operating in Kuala Pilah and their pork ribs pie remains a best seller all these years. This beautiful looking pie is a fusion of east and west which you can enjoy as it is or with rice. The crunchy and buttery crust gives a satisfying bite while the ribs are tender, well-seasoned with a distinct Hainanese taste.
The ‘hundred flower chicken’ 百花鸡 is a flattened fried chicken but with a twist – there’s actually a layer mackerel fish paste under the meat. You get to enjoy three different textures in a single bite: crispy skin, succulent chicken and bouncy QQ fish paste.
