Penang Mee Yoke (Prawn Mee) @ Xang Kee, Cheras

Penang Prawn Mee Stall Xang Kee Cheras

Recently, my weekends were spent on hunting for prawn mee. Among the many prawn mee that I have tasted in the course of this search, I felt the one that I had at Restoran Xang Kee is worth recommending.
This coffee shop is located in Taman Maluri, Cheras and some of the other popular food here include Western food and XO seafood noodle. In fact, the XO seafood noodle is a branch of Kepong’s.

The first thing that caught my attention about this prawn mee was the soup. I can’t really explain it but I just knew the soup was going to be good based on its appearance.
I am glad I was right, as it tasted clean with a good depth of pure prawn flavor. Some prawn mee sellers use rock sugar liberately in their soup to lead people into thinking that it’s tasty, and that’s not cool.

A normal serving of the prawn mee costs RM6 and it’s an extra RM3 to upgrade the toppings. The difference? You get full sized prawns instead of those thinly sliced ones. I counted there were around 5 to 6 pieces of them and they were delicious because uncle uses sea prawns that have firm texture and sweet taste.

Sarawak Laksa Xang Kee Cheras

I also tried the Sarawak Laksa, which I thought was alright and the seller pretty much nailed the overall flavor. It could have been great if the soup was richer, thicker and spicier. Just a few tweaks here and there and it has potential to be something special.
