Klang Penang Char Koay Teow

Before coming here, I have heard plenty of good things about Jalan Batai’s Char Koay Teow in Klang. Despite my initial skepticism and high expectations for, it still managed to blow me away. So you can imagine how delicious this char koay teow is. It was definitely worth the hour drive we made all the way from Kepong.

Although I have a list of Penang style char koay teow to eat in KL & Klang Valley, none of them are perfect. Some could be over salty, a tad moist or lack quality ingredients.
I won’t go as far as to say Jalan Batai’s version is perfect, but it’s darn good and fulfilled whatever I wanted in a delicious plate of char koay teow. Even if I wanted to nitpick, there’s nothing negative I can find to talk about.

The noodle had good ‘wok hei’, big, fresh and crunchy prawns, nice heat, plump and juicy cockles and did not taste oily at all. What more can you ask for?

After we were done eating, I had a brief chat with the owners. It pleases me to know that the family who started this char koay teow stall are from my hometown, Bukit Mertajam. Interestingly, the father of the lady who mans the wok currently only became a hawker when he relocated to KL almost 20 years ago.
The reason the stall is named after Jalan Batai (Damansara Heights) is because that’s where they were originally stationed at. The kopitiam they were operating from and other shops around were marked for redevelopment, hence they relocated to Klang.

For those making a makan trip to Klang soon, I highly recommend that you put this into your list of things to try. You won’t regret it.
