2 weeks ago, I was invited for a food review at Brotzeit located at Mid Valley Megamall together with some of the Tastebuddies gang from Nuffnang. Despite being a Thursday afternoon, the place is packed with lunch goers savoring special German cuisine.
While waiting for the other foodies to arrive, the chef is kind to present us with a German pizza to start up our journey to Bavarian cuisine. The Brotzeitflade Speck or Bacon Pizza (RM32) is pretty special as the base is made of rye dough compare to the normal yeast dough in Italian Pizza. Topped with tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, bacon, onions, vine riped tomatoes and chilli, it’s as good as it gets with a slight Asian taste. The rye dough does provide a different texture brought the pizza a different dimension and highly recommended for starters or even as a main meal.
We were also presented with various type of Paulaner beer, each different in taste by adding different type of drinks to it. As we were told, the Germans like to drink beers, more so during their lunch time but since they would need to head back to the office to work, they will normally opt for beers which is low in alcohol content. There’s a few selection to choose from ranging from Russ’n (Wiessbier with lemonade), Radley (Original Munchner Lager with lemonade), Affensaft (Weissbier with banana syrup or mango juice), Bayrischer Longdrink (Original Muchner Lager with vodka and lime juice) and Schwarzer (Weissbier with cola). Managed to try all of it and it does taste different and refreshing after meal, and with it’s lower alcohol content, you can still managed to sneak back to office without being drunk.
Salat mit Schafskase or Feta Salad (RM38) is a great salad to go with all the meat dishes. Mixed salad with feta cheese, red bell pepper, semi-dried tomatoes, onions, olives, garlic croutons and sour cream, it’s good and I like the feta cheese which is creamy and cheesy without any pungent cheese flavour. If you opt to go Vegan at this restaurant, this is the next best thing.
The Oktoberfest Platter (RM258+) is specially created by Chef Helmut for the upcoming Oktoberfest and features Brotzeit’s signature pork knuckle, lumberjack steaks, garlic pork sausages, oven roasted chicken and gipsy bacon.
The set also comes with sauerkraut and potato salad, which makes it best to be share amount friends or family.
Coming back to the patter, both the garlic sausages and gipsy bacons were nice and delicious while the lumberjack steaks are average with minimal seasoning.
The signature pork knuckle had a pretty crunchy skin, while the meat was tender and juice although I do find it lacking any taste but it could be us Asians who like our meat to be full of flavor. Anyways, there’s always brown sauce to complement it. The oven roasted chicken was good too and roast to perfection.

A fellow blogger hard at work capturing the nicest shot for the Oktoberfest platter. The platter is pretty filling despite there’s 9 of us so looks like we need to come again next time to try their other main dishes.
After a pretty filling mains, we were serve with a variety of dessert, Kaiserschmarren or Emperor’s Cake (RM20( and Profiterole Duet (RM20). The Emperor’s Cake is soft and fluffy shredded pancake with rum and raisin, served with plum sauce while the Profiterole Duet comes with a chocolate profiterole (that feels like cream puff) with vanilla ice cream and cinnamon sugar apple fritter on vanilla sauce.
Sweet & Savoury Duo (RM25) and Bavarian Orange Truffle (RM18). Both are pretty special desserts, with the sweet and savoury duo consist of crispy chocolate bacon on white chocolate mousse with lemon pepper marinated strawberries and apricot sauce. The Orange Truffle is very refreshing with layers of rum and orange infused sponge fingers and fresh cream. The chocolate bacon is pretty special, a concoction of 2 great taste that resulted in a rather weird but tasty combination.
Overall it’s a good 1st food review for myself and I particularly like the salad and the pizza. Wouldn’t mind dropping by again to try the rest of the mains that’s available on their menu though.
However, if you’re reading this and wanted to give the Oktoberfest Platter a try, do head over to Brotzeit as the platter will be available from the 21st September all the way till 31st of October in conjunction with the Oktoberfest celebration. Reservations are always encouraged as seating is limited, and advance purchase of Entrance tickets are recommended at RM50 per pax which includes a pint of Oktoberfest bier and chance to win a range of attractive lucky draw prizes.
So if you have always wanted to go to an Oktoberfest in Munich, Brotzeit’s Oktoberfest celebration could be the next best thing!
